The EPDM Rubber Roofing Services We Offer

New Roof Installation

If you’re building a new home or commercial building, EPDM rubber is a fantastic choice for any sections of flat roofing. Here at Empire Roofing, we have experience working on flat roof section or garage conversions for residential homes, as well as large flat roofs for commercial properties.

EPDM Roof Repairs

One of the big advantages of EPDM rubber roofing is how easy it is to repair. Durable and flexible, small tears or punctures can be fixed quickly, and without breaking the bank. However, if you don’t know what you’re doing or think you need significant repairs, then we strongly recommend leaving it to a roofing professional.

Roof Replacement

While durable and long-lasting, no matter the material, flat roofs won’t last forever. We regularly complete EPDM roof replacements for both residential and industrial properties.

Other Flat Roofing Materials We Work With

While we regularly work with EPDM due to its longevity, low-maintenance properties, and being extremely waterproof, we also offer flat roofing services for the full range of flat roofing materials, including the likes of GRP fibreglass and lead. FAQs

    What is EPDM roofing?
EPDM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) is an extremely durable synthetic rubber roofing membrane that is primarily used on flat, no-slope, and low-slope roofs around the world.
    How waterproof is EPDM?

EPDM is extremely waterproof, and unless there is damage, it is very unlikely that any water will penetrate th actual membrane. Any leaks usually come from poor installation, or the gaps inbetween rolls. However, because EPDM rubber membrane comes in very wide rolls, it is often possible to cover a flat roof in one seamless covering.

This means there is even less chance that your flat roof will leak, as there are no, or fewer, gaps for the water to penetrate.

What are the disadvantages of EPDM roofing?

While EPDM is a fantastic roofing material and choice for your flat roof, it does have disadvantages to be aware of.

    • The standard black colour of EPDM retains heat, which can increase cooling costs for your home, unless you opt for the more expensive white-coated EPDM.
    • EPDM is a softer and more pliable material than other membranes, which makes it less optimal for high-foot-traffic roofs. For roofs where you expect people to walk on, like flat commercial roofs, we recommend walk pads, or other materials like Modified Bitumen Roofing (Mod Bit) or Built-Up Roofing (BUR).
    • Professional installation is recommended, as poor seam work or flashing can lead to leaks, improper glue work can lead to compromised performance, and seams can fail over time.
What is the life expectancy of an EPDM Roof?
EPDM Roofs have a life expectancy of up to, and depending on conditions, over 50 years. EPDM is extremely durable, weather-resistant, and waterproof, which adds to its life expectancy, beyond just the longevity of the material itself. This life expectancy does depend, however, on the quality and level of the installation.
